Take a piece of Kawagama home with you.

Don't you ever wish you could look up from your office desk and see the cottage?

How about showing someone your special place when you are miles away.

Why not have an aerial photograph of your cottage?

We have been proud to display an aerial photo of Minden Bay taken by local artist John Murden. John transfers these photographs onto canvas which gives the photograph a rich, painted feel.

Already many of our customers have visited John at his gallery and are now the proud owners of an aerial photograph of their cottage.

Drop by the marina to see a sample of John's work. We have two full size examples and will soon have a catalogue of many of the photos, taken by John, of Kawagama from the air.

If John doesn't have the exact photo you are looking for, you can place an order, with John, so that he takes pictures of your special place the next time he flies.

Come and find your cottage!

These photographs will make an excellent gift

Mountain Trout House is now a

Diamond 5 Anchor Eco Rated Marina!

One of only a few marinas in Ontario to achieve this rating, Mountain Trout House earned this rating during our last Clean Marine Audit. We would like to thank all of you, our customers, who have taken this effort on as your own and helped us get to this level. Four years ago we reached 5 Anchors. We have attempted to improve since then and will continue to do so.

Clean Marine CLEAN MARINE UPDATE Clean Marine

As many of you will remember, Mountain Trout House Marina has been a supporting member of the Clean Marine Program, in Ontario, since the Hendersons owned the marina. When we came to Kawagama and purchased MTH, we knew that we needed to build on what Gord and Leslie had done. One of those areas was the effect that this marina had on the lake and surrounding environment. In 2006 a plan was developed (read the MTH Clean Marine Policy) that would see us constantly striving for and working towards the goal of reducing our environmental impact. Eight months after we purchased MTH we had our first Clean Marine audit. We were pleased and proud of the team here when Mountain Trout House scored, what was then, the highest score awarded since the program started. In addition to the 5 Green Anchors, Mountain Trout House was awarded the Robert Eaton Environmental Award for excellence in environmental practices within the marine industry. While this was a great start, we continue to support the idea that it is possible to improve upon and reduce this operation's impact on our surroundings.

Many of our initiatives are hard to spot unless you are looking for them. Simple things like the catch basin by the fuel pump so that portable fuel tanks do not spill into your boat or worse, into the lake; a small bottle to catch the fuel if it comes out the overflow vent on your boat; plastic bags covering all lower units on boats in storage which ensures that no petroleum products drip onto the soil or onto another boat; shrink wrap that is 100% recycled; timers on lights so that we conserve electricity. These are just a few of the ongoing initiatives that we will continue to improve upon.

Next year we will be asking all of our slip holders to read and understand the MTH Clean Marine Policy. The following paragraph will be added to our slip holders agreement.

" I have read and agree with the intent of the Clean Marine Policy. I am aware that the marina is adopting Clean Marine Practices throughout the facility. I will make every effort to comply with those practices where possible and help the marina to protect our natural environment."

In addition to our Clean Marine Policy, we also have an Emergency Response Plan at Mountain Trout House. This plan covers all the contingencies from fuel and oil spills to fires and sinking boats. While it is too large a document to post here, everyone is welcome to ask for a copy at the marina. We have copies posted at the fuel pump, in the office and in the shop.

Keeping Kawagama Beautiful is something we strongly believe in and will continue to strive for. If you have a suggestion or a question in this regard please let us know. We are always looking for input and a better way.

Recently we have had another Clean Marine Audit. We will post the results here as soon as they are known.
